Why See Houston Ballet - Play?
Play: A Thrilling Mixed Rep
The second in the Unconventional Ballet at the Convention Center series, the mixed repertory Play is a complete reimagining of the Houston Ballet classic Global Movements. Adapted by the company's fearless Artistic Director Stanton Welch, the evening features a stage that extends right into the audience on three sides, creating an astonishing, fully immersive experience where the separation between dancer and spectator is a hair's breadth.
Play consists of a re-worked version of the title work, a modern dance piece inspired by the crowded streets of urban life in which the suit-wearing dancers march, slide and scoot in a cinematic sweep of pure acceleration. A re-choreographed Bolero also features alongside an exciting world premiere ballet. The new work is a touching tribute to the resilience of the company's home city.
Performance date: 8 June 2018
