Stravinsky's Firebird plus Angel Blue
Houston Symphony Orchestra add some fire to opening weekend, with Juraj Valcuha conducting thrilling complete performance of Stravinksy's The Firebird! Upon its premiere in Paris in 1910, the work proved a breakthrough for the then 27 year-old composer, becoming an instant classic and solidifying a long and celebrated career thanks to its glittering imagery, Russian folk-tinged rhythms and rising climactic movements.
As well as The Firebird, The Orchestra has further treata in store in the form of dazzling soprano Angel Blue performing Florent Schmitt's monumental Psalm 47, as well as a world premiere performance of Julia Wolfe's new work Libertly Bell kicking off what is certain to be a special opening concert!
