Houston Symphony - Mozart and Elgar's Enigma Variations

Why see Houston Symphony - Mozart and Elgar's Enigma Variations?

Elgar And Mozart Masterpieces

Vasily Petrenko leads the Houston Symphony Orchestra in this brilliant program, culminating with a performance Sir Edward Elgar's career-defining Variations on an Original Theme. Beloved to audiences the world over since its 1899 premiere, the multi-faceted work is sure to stir the soul throughout, from the passionate strings of Variation 1 (inspired by his wife) to the sweeping and elegant autumnal flow of the Nimrod Variation.

Opening with a suite from the 1939 film version of Wuthering Heights, the program also offers the chance to experience Mozart's majestic Ninth Piano Concerto Jenamy, written in 1777 at the age of 21. The orchestra will then feature piano soloist Jan Lisiecki, one of today's greatest young talents, for Elgar's variations.
