Join the Houston Symphony in celebrating the new year with a special concert featuring the music of one of the most recognisable figures of America's golden era of jazz! The Houston Symphony Big Band, together with guest vocalist Denzal Sinclaire and Count Basie Orchestra trumpeter Byron Stripling, will perform a range of songs from Nat King Cole's far-reaching career, including hits like Mona Lisa, L-O-V-E and Nature Boy.
A trailblazer in every sense of the word, Nat King Cole began his career as a jazz pianist before becoming a contemporary to the likes of Sinatra and Dean Martin. His reign spanned much of the 40s, 50s and 60s, and because of the color of his skin, his celebrity aided his role in the civil rights struggle. A consummate showman with an almost supernatural charisma, his velvet-piled vocal chords remain unmistakable in their brilliance.
