Theatre Under The Stars presents a new revival of the original Broadway musical that originally starred Julie Andrews in the lead role as Victoria. At the time of her tenure, Andrews caused great controversy by refusing a Tony Award nomination, feeling that the rest of the cast and creative staff had been overlooked.
Filled to the brim with sultry, cheeky numbers such as "Le Jazz Hot" and an extremely funny case of mistaken identity, this is a must-see for anybody who has ever wondered how the other half live!
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
A penniless female soprano conspires with a flamboyantly gay cabaret impresario in 1939's Paris to launch her singing career within the city's legendary nightclub scene. By disguising herself as a man called Victor, he in turn is a female impersonator, unbeknownest to anybody. Victoria, or Victor as she is now called, becomes the toast of the Parisian society.
But when a visiting mob boss called King Marchan sees her act and falls in love with the gender-bending star, can she keep up the charade when she returns his affections? And what happens when his ditzy ex-flame threatens to expose Victor's secret?
Featuring well-loved songs including Paris by Night and If I Were A Man, this is a delightful musical comedy about the battle of the sexes and gender perceptions, set in the sexually permissive world of the Parisian cabaret.
