program
Themes and Variations
Choreographed by George Balanchine
Music by Tchaikovsky
A grand and glittering spectacle, Balanchine's Themes and Variations celebrates the mastery of Imperial Russian Ballet, harking back to the golden time in their history when Tchaikovsky was providing his soaring, unforgettable compositions.
Other Dances (Company premiere)
Choreographed by Jerome Robbins
Music by Mazurkas
Created for and inspired by the legendary pairing of Mikhail Baryshnikov and Natalia Makarova after their defection from the USSR, Robbin's Other Dances requires the talents of the company to display incredible technique with virtuosic simplicity.
Artifact Suite (Company premiere)
Choreography by William Forsythe
Music by Bach, Eva Crossman-Hecht
Described as an 'ode to ballet,' Artifact Suite, taken from Forsythe's full-length work, Artifact, is a thrilling contemporary ballet that explores the evolution of the art form from its roots in baroque court dances. Rarely for a ballet, Artifact Suite also features two speaking characters providing the narrative.
