Set in 1970s America, Qui Nguyen's modern comedy centers on two Vietnamese refugees trying to find their way in a foreign country. Loosely based on Nguyen's parents who left Saigon after its fall in 1975 to build a new life in America, the play received the Steinberg Award, LADCC Ted Schmidt New Play Award and was a Kennedy Prize finalist in 2016.

Becky Mode's Fully Committed follows the life of overworked restaurant reservation worker and out-of-work actor Sam Peliczowski. The play opened Off Broadway in 1999 and has been revived since. The Hollywood Reporter described the story as a "one-person one-act about the ridiculous faddishness of upscale foodie culture."

The Alley Theatre is an indoor theatre in Downtown Houston, Texas, hosting two stages. The "Hubbard" (main stage) seats 824, while the "Neuhaus" seats 310. It is one of the three oldest resident theatres in the United States. The building is designed like a castle, with nine towers and open-air terraces. Since the arrival of the current artistic director in 1989, Mr. Gregory Boyd has produced more than 120 productions at the Alley, and has been praised for often rivalling Broadway in quality.
