Why See Houston Symphony - Debussy's La Mer?
Conducted by Ludovic Morlot
The Houston Symphony capture the ambiance of the big blue in this program led by Debussy's seafaring masterpiece. An excellent evocation of the ocean and its varied moods, La Mer will headline the all French evening, begun by works from Berlioz and Roussel.
Premiering in 1905, La Mer takes us on a buzzing journey from sun-drenched lazy waves to frenzied squalls. Influential and wholly entrancing, feel the power and playfulness of nature's majesty as imagined by one of classical music's finest and most enduring talents.
The evening will also feature the vocal stylings of mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, who'll take on Berlioz's moving poetic song cycle, Les Nuits d'ete.
Opening night: 8 March 2019
