Houston Symphony showcases the biggest works by three composers
A timely concert, Beethoven's Emperor Concerto came at a time when the composer realized to his disappointment that Napolean wasn't the heroic adventurer that he believed he was. However, despite the chaos around him, the composer opened his work with a sense of martial style but also optimism. The Emperor's Concerto shows that the composer was determined to transcend life’s hardships and his profound deafness through music.
This program also rounds off with Don Juan, Opus 20 by a then-24 year-old Richard Strauss and Les preludes, Symphonic Poem No. 3 by Franz Liszt, the original classical rock star composer.
