reader, she married him

Charlotte Bronte's seminal novel comes to life on the Alley Theatre's Hubbard Stage in spring 2024 in this adaptation by Elizabeth Williamson, directed by Eleanor Holdridge. Follow the story of a young woman who beats the odds against the bad fortune that life has bestowed upon her, as she escapes poverty as an orphan, falls in love with an aloof aristocrat, and suffers a huge betrayal.

What is the story?

Jane Eyre is a soul-stirring journey of bravery and love that begins when Jane, an orphaned young woman is sent to the home of the mysterious Mr. Rochester to become a Governess.

Entering a house full of unnerving silence, Jane finds herself in the middle of a labyrinth of long-buried secrets and pain and finds herself drawn to her enigmatic employer. A gothic, dark yet ultimately hopeful love story, Jane Eyre was published in 1847 and became Charlotte Bronte's most successful novel.
