Houston Ballet - Rock, Roll, and Tutus

Houston Ballet - Rock, Roll, and Tutus at Brown Theater

Why see Houston Ballet - Rock, Roll, and Tutus?

Rock Energy

Houston Ballet's Rock, Roll & Tutus brings together three dynamic works that highlight the versatility of dance. Christopher Bruce's Rooster, set to classic Rolling Stones hits, blends ballet with a playful take on the counterculture that swept the world in the 1960s. Featuring songs such as "Paint It Black" and "Sympathy for the Devil", the piece captures the era's boundless energy while adding a touch of humor.

The program continues with Illuminate, a contemporary ballet by Jacquelyn Long set to Oliver Davis' Frontiers, marrying fluid movement with striking costumes by Holly Hynes. Closing the evening is Stanton Welch's Vi et animo, set to Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. Featuring the full company, this work combines powerful ensemble sections with demanding solos, showcasing both technical skill and range.

Rock, roll & FUN!

This is the second time we have seen this program. The first being about 5 years ago. It never fails to entertain me! Brilliant and energetic with caring skills worthy of a cinematic academy award. Assuming you had not read any write up’s on the program you would still know the story just from the artistry and expressiveness of the dancers. Great music which provides a walk down memory lane. ... Read more
