Houston Ballet - Rite of Spring

Houston Ballet - Rite of Spring at Brown Theater

Why see Houston Ballet - Rite of Spring?

Saluting Spring

Houston Ballet presents Stanton Welch's adaptation of Stravinsky's Le Sacre Du Printemps: The Rite of Spring! A musing on the unstoppable power of mother nature, Stravinsky's timeless ballet is a sight to behold in any form, and this Houston Ballet Production features the artworks of Aboriginal Australian visual artist Rosella Namok to elevate the music and movement even further, creating new sense of visual wonder the performance. Alongside this classic will be performances of Justin Peck and Sufjan Stevens' Reflections and a world premiere by Jacquelyn Long.

The Rite of Spring is one of Stravinsky's true masterpieces. Composed for the Parisienne ballet company Ballet Russes in time for their 1913 season, the bombastic work famously incited a riot at its grand premiere, one of the most notorious events in the history of the artform. In the eyes of many it remains one of the most exciting works in the canon and worth witnessing for any lover of powerful music and movement.
