Hysterical!

A funny, surprising, original, well written, directed and acted play. I've never heard a crowd laugh so much. Truly brilliant comedy. I cannot wait to see what else Robert Askins does!!! Boy is on fire.

It’s sad to see the bad reviews above. Certainly last night, the audience were laughing all through the show. Our crowd thought it was funny, well acted, the set was great and well done.

We happily suspended belief & enjoyed ‘ The Carpenter ‘ tonight very much & laughed out loud several times! The acting & comic timing was excellent; stunning set & great costumes. We’d love to see these actors in other roles! The only criticism would be the end, when every one was chasing around.

Good actors but waste of time

NOT A COMEDY. Misdescribed by the Alley. Indeed, disappointing. Wish I had left at intermission but stayed til the end. Actors did a good job. But the play is dark with some silly jokes and raunchy language and scenes. Hodge podge of ideas of others thrown together to allegedly describe why folks act badly. Tiring and long play.

Amateurish

The premise of the play had merit, the execution on the part of the playwright did not. Other than the usual wonderful Alley sets and staging and actors that did their best with what they had to work with, most everything else reminded me of an amateur community theatre play. Painfully low-level, often corny dialog absent of much snap or cleverness, scenes that needlessly dragged on and on.... Thankfully I left at intermission

The set was impressive...

If you believe pulling flowers out of one’s vagina is the height of hilarity, then this raunchy, dark, and depressing “comedy” is off to a good start. Mistaken identity as a trope can be quite funny, but this play fails to launch. Characters betray one another and themselves as regularly as the hip grinds that constitute the comedy. And the geographic jokes about Houston and Dallas are not worth the ticket price.
