WELL DONE

I followed American Idol during Alejandro's season, only because I happened upon his incredible musical talent. At the time it intrigued me that he mentioned that Trent Reznor, Chopin and Bach were his musical muses (what a fascinating trio - heavy metal meets classical). Most of his compositions on the show trended to poppy ballads penned by a nascent songwriter, but his extraordinary musicianship was what kept drawing me back to the show (I mostly watched him on YouTube). So when the opening act was a metal/dance/techno musician (still raw around the edges) I thought what have we here/hear? Alejandro came out blazing with a four piece band that laid a wall of sound and light down on the audience (I looked around and saw the astonished/bewildered face.). I was at this point drawn into a wonderful musical journey, as the Trent Revnor part of AA revealed itself and I was beguiled by his refusal to stick to the expected script. By the fourth song he had me enthralled and his driving, technically brilliant piano playing reminded me of a young Rick Wakeman (yep, I'm old). While I saw about 10% of the audience (mostly older) leave during the show, the remaining 90% were treated to a budding musical star's genius. Again that's why they have vanilla and pistachio on the menu.

ALL SIDES OF ALEJANDRO

If you left early you missed the Alejandro you came to see! He did it all and he did it his way. Hard and soft, fast and slow, brutal and sensitive, all sides of AA. He is unique, he is still amazing and still does what we all loved on TV. He is still Alejandro, apparently unchanged from the humble artist we all love. But, for me, let me know when he does an Alejandro Unplugged concert, I’ll be there with bells on.

JUST OK.

Left early. Not one for Techno and So loud we couldn’t hear the words. Still love him as a humble guy, just was looking forward to seeing some Idol love songs.

DISAPPOINTED, YET LOVE HIM

Went in hoping to see the intimate guitar set of his awesome songs. What we got was his songs in the genre of techno pop. Loud and could not hear the words. Not sure if it was because of signing with label or choice, but lots of folks disappointed. Still think he is tremendous...

SAD

Not sure what that was but it was weird and honestly feel confused. He was amazing in American Idol but I don’t know what that was. Could barely hear his voice and the songs all sounded the same. If techno head banging is your style, then this is for you. There was one guitar solo and he was literally playing the same couple notes over and over for like 10 minutes...I thought I was going to lose it. So excited to see him and so disappointed....Alejandro, why?????

UNEXPECTED, AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY

I appreciate that Alejando is a young artist who is experimenting with different musical genres. That being said, I feel that I was duped into attending a heavy metal concert, when what I thought I was paying for was the music that Alejandro debuted on American Idol, and on his own Spotify account. It was false advertising at its finest (someone call The Fed). The music was so loud, so jarring and inaudible, that I left within 20 minutes of his taking center stage. Sucre (the opening musician) on the other hand, gave the crowd exactly what they came for: an intimate, melodic and audible performance.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALEJANDRO?

That was the first thing I said after sitting speechless in the audience with my husband and two sons last night after his first few songs. We had waited over six months to see him and were thrilled at the prospect as we were his biggest fans while watching him in American Idol. What happened to his artistry? The beautiful guitar and sensitive piano brilliance along with his touching lyrics? All we heard was noise. Has a heavy metal band possessed his body? And if so, somebody please get that boy an exorcist. Lyrics were muffled by loud playing, drumming overpowered anything you thought you could hear and the lights strobing made it feel like you could have a seizure. I clenched my teeth so hard and held onto my seat fir help I’m getting through each song. Folks began to exit theatre after the 3rd song. We all looked at one another in disbelief as to who this was. I’m sorry Alejandro, we had to leave too. It felt like we were betraying who you were to stay. I hope you find your way back.
