DISAPPOINTING QUACK
Quack, the story of the takedown of a Dr Phil like television personality, seemed a continuation of questionable creative choices by the Alley. As a long time Alley subscriber, I want to be grabbed by a poignant moment, laugh out loud, shed a tear. After a no- intermission 1 hour and forty- five minutes, I felt little connection to the story and was not moved in any way by the work. The storyline did not feel fresh nor the writing clever. A story of betrayal was retold using the perils of the social media front and center. Colorful language is not substitute for thoughtful dialogue. As always, the actors did their best with the material and the production values and direction were well done. Here’s hoping that the new creative director will choose better properties than we’ve seen in recent shows.
