Featuring The Music Of Beethoven & Jimmy Lopez
Paying tribute to the resilience and strength of the human spirit, the Houston Symphony presents a stunning program of Beethoven works lead by French conductor Fabien Gabel. The evening also features Jimmy Lopez's Dreamer Oratorio, a touching sonic mediation on the immigration experience replete with text by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, as well as the talents of actor Damon Gupton and opera diva Ana Matia Martinez.
Composed in 1808, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy bears melodic echoes of the composer's joyful Ode To Joy refrain. Beginning with a solo keyboard, the piece is infused with a sense of spontaneity and humor, whilst the orchestra quietly tiptoes in and weaves around the warm flowing melody. Keyboard and orchestra meet in a rousing finale filled with military marches, operatic references and a heroic proclamation of man's potential for good in the world.
