Winner of the 1981 Pulitzer Prize
Stageworks Theater Houston showcases its take on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley, directed by Theresa Rebeck.
Set in the provincial town of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, the untimely death of a loved one brings together three sisters battling with old hang-ups and resentments.
The eldest sister, Lenny, has never ventured far beyond the sisters' hometown of Hazelhurst, where she has lived all her life looking after her set-in-his-ways grandfather. Middle sister Meg left to pursue her dream of fame and fortune as a singer in Los Angeles, but her lack of success saw her turn to the bottle for comfort.
And then there's Babe, the youngest sister of the three. Babe was abused by her husband, Zackery Bottrelle and has just been arrested for his murder. When the sisters reunite in Hazelhurst, they struggle to hide their bitterness and anger about their lives and relationships, past and present, and try to come to terms with how life has treated them. Will their familial love be enough?
