DON’T BE SCROOGE

This is an outstanding Charles Dickens Classic. We have attended as a family ever year except one ( out of town) Don’t be a Scrooge this timeless story never gets old. Support your local arts and have a great time.

FANTASTIC!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Don't get me wrong, I love the traditional Christmas Carol, but after seeing it over and over, year after year, I wasn't as excited when, I ended up with tickets to this performance. Boy was I suprised, everything about this show was entertaining. I would go back in a heart beat! It was fantastic I highly recommend!

THE CHRISTMAS CAROL

Bravo to the director Mr Rob Melrose!! This is a wonderful new rendition of a favorite holiday classic!! I loved the new set, I love the story telling, the costumes, all of the actors are phenomenal and the youth cast adorable!!! I was so happy to have this beautiful production back in full force!! They even added a hot chocolate/ hot cider bar for the kids, and we loved it!! Definitely a must see 2022!!! Go support this amazing production at the Alley Theatre

LOVE THE CHRISTMAS CAROL

To @jerry everyone is always leery of change but change it always for the better. As for your comment, too much activity while changing sets?well it is LIVE theatre, duh. If stillness is what you want, go to stare at a picture @tiffany the principal of the show was totally captured! You list no value reason for your stupid complaints. Your onlycomment worth reading was,on the actors performed well, that was the true!! And shame on you for writing this nasty comment! Good luck finding another family Christmas tradition as amazing as this production.@disappointed,this was a wonderful twist on a holiday classic. The characters on stage while the story is being narrated is called LIVE Theatre (mentioned this above to Jerry as well). The only part of your comment worth reading was re: Mrs Dilbert,Who was a great character but as I said above, this is a new rendition. If boring is what you, husband, his parents are looking for, stay home and keep your negative worthless comments to yourself.

WHAT A SURPRISE….AND WE LOVED IT!

I love Dickens “Christmas Carol” and have enjoyed the Alley production for many years. My first time to see this production and what a surprise! It was a combination of tradition and energizing new components - both in production and scripting. The diversity of performers, the tidbits of humor, the intensity of the ghosts yet appropriate for young audiences. Watching the audience - they laughed, applauded the highlights and intently listened to the narration. We thought it was fabulous. Change can be challenging for those who value tradition - but this production reflects the diversity of Houston and it matters.

PREFERRED PAST PRODUCTIONS

I did not particularly care for the 2022 version of the Alley production of A Christmas Carol. I attended the evening production on November 20. I felt the actors/actresses did fine with what they were working with, but I found the production to be choppy and did not care for all the narration. There was too much activity with the changing of sets. To me it had more of a feel of a good high school or college production with a couple of advanced sets as opposed to a professional version.

TERRIBLE RENDITION

Our family just left the play. It is the first time we have seen the play since 2019. Prior, we had seen the original play 6 consecutive years. It became our family Christmas tradition each year. 2022 .. absolutely disappointing!! Story telling replaced ALOT of the captivating aspects of the original show. Actors performed well but the direction of the show was very bad. Principal of this story was not captured one bit. All I could think, when is this going to be over and we are going to need to find a new holiday tradition because I’m not coming back to watch this “rendition”. My husband and kids felt the same things as they are watching the show. Total disappointment.

PLEASE GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS PRODUCTION!

My husband, his parents, and I have been going to see A Christmas Carol at the Alley Theater for years. We hadn't been for a couple of years though. But this year my husband and I decided to go again, but we did see it was going to be a "new twist" on the classic. Well, from the very beginning it was obvious to us this was not a good twist. The whole show felt like it had way too much going on. The attempt to have as many characters as possible cross the stage while narrating it was confusing and distracting. The lack of Mrs. Dilbert was the biggest disappointment for me. And the dancing ghosts missing were the biggest disappointment for my husband. I'm not sure how this version came to be, when the other version is so good and loved. I truly hope the older version from years ago comes back next year, as this one was so disappointing. It was boring and confusing. Also during the play the lights randomly came on. But I will say, the actors are still really great overall.

INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING

The narration left little to no room for the actors’ character development. We’ve attended the production since 2007 and loved this holiday family tradition. However, we will not be back if this new rendition continues. We had a party of 6 and everyone was quite disappointed. I’d go so far as to say, I think the Covid productions were better than 2022 new production.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

I looked forward to seeing this play and raved to others about the special affects. I was very disappointed when I showed up and they had rewritten the story. This new version was a total disappointment for me. The special affects were very cheesy least to say. The people who gave it 5 stars were probably the actors in the play. The two men holding the plastic boat above their heads was enough for me. I often found my self dozing off at times. There was more talking throughout the play than acting. This rendition ranks up there with a high school play. They need to go back to the original rendition. For the price, I would not recommend this play to anyone. Save your money until they make things right. Oh, you might ponder why they put 5 stars up front. What a nice way to start off the season. Very very dissatisfying and disappointing. Save your money.

CRIED OF DISAPPOINTMENT

Seeing the Christmas Carol has been a family tradition since I was super young. Memories of putting on my best Christmas dress to take pictures in front of all of the beautiful trees has become a cherished childhood memory. That being said, when watching the new adaptation and bringing my fiancé for the first time to share in such a special memory brought me to tears. I understand that changes are necessary and improvements can be made, but this is nothing near what it used to be. Year round my family would share inside jokes about the play. Reciting lines, songs, and dances. It feels like these memories have been ripped away. Growing up the ballerina ghosts used to terrify me, but as I got older they became my favorite part. Gone. The set that once felt like we were apart of the character's dinner and games. Gone. Please revise and try again with more of a meaningful Christmas Carol we once knew and loved.
