Legendary playwright August Wilson's seminal Tony Award-winning drama is coming to Houston's Alley Theater, opening for a thrilling run next Spring. Focusing on the lasting impacts of racial prejudice and shattered dreams on the life of a former baseball player, Fences is one of the most extraordinary American theatrical works of the 20th century.
In his youth, Troy was one of the most promising baseball players in the country - but being black in a pre-integrated era of baseball prevented him from making any money from it. Now 53 years old, Troy is a garbage worker making ends meet for his family. When his son Cory reveals his own ambition of gaining a college football scholarship, years of resentment over Troy's unfulfilled promise are suddenly brought to the surface, and threaten to boil over.
