When a childless baker and his wife make a deal with an embittered old witch to give them a much-wanted child, little do they know that their adventure into the nearby woods to collect a host of items (a white cow, a golden slipper, a red hood, a lock of golden hair) will put them in the paths of other fairytale characters, who are also on their own journeys of discovery. But when everybody gets their wishes, their means of reaching their goals come back to haunt them, with grave consequences.
