Appearing in Vienna in 1791, Mozart's requiem has been an enigmatic and appealing piece for the orchestra, based on the mystery of it's finale, as Mozart died before its completion. Throughout the years, it has presented a challenge to composers to realise his vision with their imagination. Powerful and imposing, it it is one of his finest works, and is presented by the Houston Symphony alongside two of Beethoven's most popular overtures.
Based on the 1904 play by Henrich Joseph von Collins, in turn from Shakespeare's Coriolanus, Coriolan is the musical narrative of the life of the rebellious Roman general, from family to loyalty, with grave consequences.
Egmont is again another composition for a play, this time of the same name by Goethe, and his account of the Dutch nobleman the Count of Egmont.
