THE PERILS OF LOVE...
Since it's debut in Paris in 1841, Giselle has inspired ballet, creating a magical escape for enamoured audiences. Presented by the esteemed Houston Ballet and staged by Stanton Welch, this wonderfully supernatural production is a true ballet classic.
WHAT THE STORY OF GISELLE OU LES WILIS?
With music by Adolphe Adam and a liberetto by Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges and Theophile Gautier, Giselle is the sad tale of a young, fragile village girl who falls for seemingly the perfect man. She is besotted by his mysterious character and upon his unmasking as a betrothed Duke, she dies tragically.
But Giselle's story does not end there. From her grave, she is summed by the Queen of the Wilis, the ethereal Myrtha and indoctrinated into the fantasy coven of women who lead men to their deaths via the medium of dance. But will Giselle be able to kill the Duke? Or will her love for him transcend the power of evil.
